With dual Canadian and French citizenship, Lydie Hwang is an actor and filmmaker who brings a distinctive dual perspective to her work, shaped by years of living and working between North America and France. Her journey began on the stage as a teenager, an experience that ignited a lifelong obsession with the craft of storytelling. While later earning a business degree in the United States, she balanced her academic studies with rigorous training in theatre and screenwriting, a foundation that instilled in her a unique appreciation for both the "magic" of a performance and the discipline required to execute it.
Her professional training took her to Paris, where she studied at the prestigious Le Cours Florent and the Method Acting Center, later refining her skills with the renowned acting coach Anik Matern in Quebec. She had the chance to perform for acclaimed filmmakers such as Tristan Aurouet, and worked on major productions for TVA and Crave.
In the indie world, she has become a recognizable presence. Two projects she contributed to received awards at the Fantasia International Film Festival (endorsed by Guillermo Del Toro), including Dog Driver (dir. Thierry Mercure), which was streamed on Mubi in 2024. Inspired by her time in workshops at La Fémis and EICAR, she eventually stepped behind the camera to write and direct. Her 2022 directorial debut earned three nominations and two wins on the festival circuit. She has recently wrapped her latest project, which is currently under consideration for several major festivals in 2026.
Beyond the screen, she is a versatile voice talent for animation and gaming, recently contributing to the launch of Streets of Fortuna with Kitfox Games. Whether in the recording booth, in front of the lens, or in the director’s chair, her mission remains the same: to create stories that are deeply human and resonant.
